Zoning Hearing Board
The Zoning Hearing Board is a quasi-judicial body whose function is to hear appeals of the Zoning Officer’s decision; to hear petitions for variances and to hear petitions for special exceptions based on hardships or specific criteria as outlined by the Zoning Ordinance. Due to the Board’s quasi-judicial status, their decisions are legally binding and can only be appealed through the PA court system. The Zoning Hearing Board primarily utilizes the adopted Zoning Ordinance and the PA Municipalities Planning Code for guidance in making their decisions. The Zoning Hearing Board also appoints their own solicitor who attends meetings to provide legal advice and representation to the board.
The Zoning Hearing Board meets on the third Thursday of every month at 6:00 pm at the Township Municipal Building (unless there is no new business). The Zoning Hearing Board is currently composed of three regular members and one alternate member who are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and serve for a three-year staggered term.
